“Everyone works on Monday,” is one of my favorite phrases from “Dave,” the 1993 flick starring Kevin Kline. As Dave Kovic, he runs a temporary employment agency in DC, and his motto reflects the exciting idea that Mondays are full of possibilities.
Yes, Kovic is a sweet-natured and caring entrepreneur, who may be considered too idealistic by some. And by a staggering coincidence—he not only looks exactly like the fictional President Bill Mitchell—he takes over for him after the leader of the free world suffers a stroke.
Being the idealistic Pollyanna that I am, this movie has stayed with me for the past two decades because I embrace the philosophy of the goodhearted man whose mission is to help people find jobs. (He also manages to cut the bloated US budget using the commonsense of a small-business owner—a page from the silver screen that I personally wish our elected officials would adopt.)
So, with great pride, we launch a JOBS page this month on InkandescentNetworking.com.
This feature is one that I hoped to launch the site with when it went live in the summer of 2011, but like many entrepreneurial endeavors, some things take longer to cook than others.
Thanks to the power of networking, I had the good fortune of being introduced to Ghazenfer Mansoor, owner of Technologyrivers.com, by my friend Lyndsey DePalma, founder of the House of Steep, and our new Healthy Living columnist.
“After experiencing many different facets of recruitment during my work at Technology Rivers, and spending enormous time with the staffing industry, we realized the huge gap in the demand and the current state of the software in this space, and decided to build Hireworx Recruitment Software,” Mansoor explains, noting that in the last several years, Hireworx has evolved into a recruitment and job board software that fulfills the need of many different types of groups, organizations, and employers.
Let’s hear it for necessity being the mother of invention, to the power of networking. — and to everyone working on Monday.
Following is our Q&A with Mansoor about his Jobs widget, his company, and how we are working together to help entrepreneurs staff up—and intrapreneurs find the ideal job.
Be Inkandescent: Tell us about your excellent JOBS widget—when, and why you created it.
Ghazenfer Mansoor: The JOBS widget is part of our recruitment software Hireworx, which makes it simple to post and look for jobs. We created it after doing a ton of market research with HR experts, CEOs, and reviewing hundreds of job-listing websites. We found that most of them either did not have career pages, or the job listings were old. And email was the only way to submit a resume. One of the main reasons for this was that HR people aren’t big fans of using complicated technology. Naturally, they didn’t want to spend tons of time posting a job or maintaining a career page. But of course, they realized that they could be losing marketshare. So we came up with a solution that addressed all of these issues.
Be Inkandescent: How effective has this offering been to employers and employees?
Ghazenfer Mansoor: We have received excellent feedback from our employers, who are are tracking hires, offers, rejections, shares, and views. This gives us great confidence in the fact that our offering is incredibly useful.
Be Inkandescent: Tell us about your company, its goals and mission.
Ghazenfer Mansoor: Hireworx is a core product of Technology Rivers. We started as a consulting company a few years ago, providing custom software-development services. Our mission is to help enterprises and early-stage companies in their software product-development efforts, especially in the mobile integration arena. Our hybrid offshore and onshore model help us fulfill the needs of our different customers with different budgets. In addition to this, we plan to work with our Hireworx customers to learn more about their needs and how software is helping them—and how we can make it better.
Be Inkandescent: What are your plans for 2013 and beyond?
Ghazenfer Mansoor: We are continuously enhancing our recruitment product, and adding more tools and features that improve the process for hiring managers. Hiring is no longer just posting jobs and reviewing resumes, but leveraging the trust and relationships built within local communities. The software needs to keep up with the changing needs and demand, and we’re determined to stay on the cutting edge.
Be Inkandescent: What goals do you have for working with the Inkandescent Group?
Ghazenfer Mansoor: The Inkandescent Group is doing an excellent job in providing a platform for owners of small businesses, who are juggling many jobs and tasks to keep their companies growing. As a small business ourselves, we know how important this army of entrepreneurs is to the national economy—especially in terms of creating jobs. We are excited to be a part of InkandescentNetworking.com, which is the perfect platform to post, share, and promote your business. In the coming months, we plan to work closely with Inkandescent to understand the needs of these small businesses, and help accomplish the goal, “Everyone works on Monday!”
